Chiller

A chiller is a refrigeration device that achieves heat exchange through refrigerant circulation. Its core function is to accurately cool the target object, and it serves as a key auxiliary equipment for ensuring product quality and equipment stability in plastic extrusion production.

Core Structure

Chillers rely on a refrigeration cycle and a cooling medium cycle, with key components:

  • Compressor: “Power core” that compresses refrigerant to drive heat transfer.
  • Condenser: Dissipates heat to condense high-temperature refrigerant into liquid.
  • Expansion Valve: Reduces refrigerant pressure to form low-temperature mist.
  • Evaporator: Absorbs heat from circulating water (cooling medium) to lower its temperature.
  • Circulating Water Pump: Delivers cooled water to the extrusion equipment that requires cooling.
  • Control System: Monitors temperature/pressure and adjusts operation for stability.

Applications in the Plastic/Rubber and Extrusion

Chillers play a crucial role in the plastic/rubber extrusion process, mainly in the following aspects:

  • Extruder Barrel & Screw Cooling: Prevents raw material degradation and screw wear by maintaining stable barrel temperatures.
  • Mold Cooling: Ensures rapid product shaping, avoids defects (shrinkage, deformation), and guarantees dimensional accuracy/surface smoothness.
  • Pipeline water cooling: In the underwater pelletizing system, when processing materials such as thermoplastic elastomers, EVA, and hot melt adhesives, a 100-meter pipe coil is required. At this case, the cooling function of the water chiller is indispensable.
  • Auxiliary Equipment Cooling: Cools soft water circulation system, vacuum condensation recovery system, oil lubrication system, thermostatic water trough, etc.
