Key Components of a Mixing Silo

  1. Silo Body
    • Material: Carbon steel, stainless steel, or concrete, often lined with wear-resistant/anti-corrosion coatings.
    • Function: Stores bulk materials for homogenization.
    • Design Features:
      • Cylindrical or square shape with a conical bottom or flat bottom.
      • Sealed top to prevent dust emissions.
  2. Feed System
    • Inlet: Located at the top, fed by conveyors.
    • Distributor: Rotary distributor or baffle plates to ensure even material distribution and minimize segregation.
  3. Mixing System
    • Gravity Blending: Uses multiple outlets or side discharge for “first-in-last-out”layered mixing.
    • Mechanical/Pneumatic Blending:
    • Mechanical Agitators: Helical arms or paddles.
    • Pneumatic Blending: Fluidized bed with compressed air for fluidization and mixing.
  4. Discharge System
    • Outlet: Equipped with gates, rotary valves, or screw conveyors for controlled discharge.
    • Weighing System (Optional): Load cells for batch dispensing.
  5. Auxiliary Systems
    • Dust Collection: Bag filters or cyclones at the silo top.
    • Level Monitoring: Radar/ultrasonic sensors to prevent overfilling or empty runs.

2. Working Process

  1. Feeding Phase: Material enters via the top distributor to form layered stockpile.
  2. Homogenization Phase:
    • Gravity Blending: Material flows through multiple outlets, creating vertical mixing.
    • Mechanical/Pneumatic Blending: Agitators or air fluidization ensures forced homogenization.
  3. Discharge Phase: Blended material exits from the bottom for downstream processing.
