In industrial processing, shell-and-tube heat exchangers are used to transfer thermal energy between different media for cooling, heating, or temperature control, while keeping the fluids physically separated.
As an essential auxiliary component of extruders and extrusion lines, shell-and-tube heat exchangers provide reliable and efficient heat transfer performance. Their mature design and strong adaptability make them a preferred solution for demanding extrusion applications.
In industrial processing, heat exchangers are used to transfer thermal energy between different media for cooling, heating, or temperature control, while keeping the fluids physically separated.
In plastic extruders, twin-screw extruders, and complete extrusion lines, stable temperature control plays a critical role in operational safety, process stability, and product quality.
Under high-temperature, high-pressure, and continuous operating conditions, shell-and-tube heat exchangers are widely applied in extruder cooling systems, temperature control units, and auxiliary process circuits, thanks to their proven structural design and reliable long-term performance.
A shell-and-tube heat exchanger consists of a shell, a tube bundle, tube sheets, and inlet and outlet connections. In typical extruder applications, one medium—such as circulating cooling water or heat transfer oil—flows through the tubes, while the process-side medium flows on the shell side. Heat is transferred through the tube walls without direct contact between the two fluids.
Depending on extrusion process requirements, the exchanger can be designed in co-current, counter-current, or multi-pass configurations, enabling stable flow control and effective temperature regulation for extruder barrels, dies, and process water circuits.

Shell-and-tube heat exchangers offer higher reliability in demanding industrial environments.
In extruder cooling systems, a Y-type pipeline filter is typically installed upstream of the heat exchanger to capture particles and impurities in the circulating fluid, reducing fouling risk and ensuring stable long-term operation.
